Fishing Reports 2010August 21 & 22 Charter GroupI had 2 group for one day so I took the second group out for a short trip Saturday night, and then out for a second quick trip on Sunday Morning. Not a big fan of a 4 hour trip because it take almost and hour to drive out and set up, then you only fish for three hours and you pull up stakes and head in. We had good fish right out front and hooked up right away. Same deal as the morning, great hits and a few fish. Did land 2 nice salmon. Sunday, with salmon already cleaned and in the cooler Sunday morning I headed a little deeper and hoped we get in some nice ones. Wind was really blowing from the south then switched to the east, with a good steady rain.. Didn't turn a rod till 7:30 then I saw the cooper thump twice. About a 6 pound lake trout. Turn the boat east into the wind and wire rod goes, nice 14-15 pounder. Got that set back in and the probe rigger rod takes off. About 5 minutes into the fight with the all the guys watching the king fly's 4 feet out of the water and does a belly flopper 100' behind the boat!!!! What an Awesome show!!! In the net and in the boat was a 22 pound king that thought he was a Rainbow.
 August 21 Fishing Charters
With a few kings caught last weekend and some good news during the week and was finally looking forward to doing some honest to goodness salmon fishing. Didn't take long till the rods were smoking out, only problem was nothing was on the rods when they were reeled in. I mean nothing, no fish, on fly, no paddle, nothing. I think in total over the two trips this weekend the salmon took 5 to 6 set ups, two wreaked cooper rods, and one wreaked wire rod. We had several Chinese fire drills on the ones we did net. Just another good $150-$200 dollar donation to the fish gods! Once we landed a few salmon it was obvious why we were losing so many. One twenty pounder had teeth longer than my finger nails! We did land a nice 29 pound 6 oz salmon that was on the derby board for two days. Not sure why they listed it under my name but it had slid off the derby board before I could call them and straiten the names out.
August 13 and 14 Fishing ChartersSome hard south east wind for several days. I bet the lake is gone to flip over. Most of the time thats like the worst possible conditions for us on the south east basin. Friday We ended up 7 for 7 with 6 salmon and one brown. Sounds like a great day but the biggest salmon was 5 pounds. Saturday we set up and with in 30 mintues the wire rod smokes out. The salmon most of taken 200+ feet out then gone. Reeled in the rod and the fly leader was biten off and had scales on the flasher. Later on checkin the corner rigger with a spoon on it, the spoon had the hooks flated down and teeth marks in the paint. I never saw the rod even move. The guys were part of a 5 boat group. One of the other boat landed a 36 pounder! There seems to be a few salmon around now with some real monters. Seems to be getting better, good news since the LOC derby is right around the corner.
August 9, 2010Two weeks ago had re-schedule this trip do you high winds and waves. The weather was much better sunny day, no wind, and mid 80's. Started out 3-4 on brown trout then went after the kings............ still waiting. Had a small hit on the copper late in the day but No Kings. The guys had a blast swimming after I pulled all the lines in. On the way in the starboard fuel pump took a crap. Oh ya got bite by a bee 4 miles off shore. No kings, mechanical issues, and bee stings.........yep it was that kind of day. Hope they try for the Kings again some time.
We also had a butter fly attack. They both lived thru it July 24
Headed out and got right on the fish. Wire rod ran out and a small salmon. Then some nice browns, another small king, and off goes the deep rigger. As he is fighting to hold on the rod i think to myself, Finally a nice salmon! In the boat and in the cooler he goes. We stayed in shallow for awhile but no luck. Turned out deep and got to 300' nothing. Marked huge pods of suspended bait, but nothing. No fish with the bait at all. At least all the guys got to fight some fish and have a good time. Still just waiting for the big king salmon.
July 15 thru July 18th
Well it was Pro Am week in Sodus Point. Had a 3 day charter and we were all looking forward to landing lots of Big King Salmon........ Nope! On Thursday went out deep, no big salmon. Did land a nice 12+ Rainbow
Friday the crew was on board and we hooked some browns, looked for salmon. Still no big salmon.
Saturday morning off we went after the brown trout. Setting up and off goes my best brown setup first thing. Had to slow the boat it was pulling so hard. 20 mins later in the boat comes a bag of garbage. No I didnt mean a Lake Trout an actual bag of garbage! Ended up with nine browns that day but a few short of the 12 needed to limit out. Sunday back after brown trout but it was rough. Had 3 browns and headed north hoping for a few kings but it was just rough. 6-8' waves. A few kings were landed on Sunday but not like they should be. Just wondering where are the kings? July 11, 2010Finally some nice weather to fish in! 1 footers with a small west breeze. Head out around 7 am and worked out to 200 feet nothing. Turned south and headed back and saw a good pile of bait on the fish finder that had fish hooks all over it in 115' of water. I turned west and it was like I turned on a light switch. For a good 2 hours I did nothing but set alot of rods back in the water and net fish. Swallow rigger bounced and a big rainbow launch out of the water and was gone. We hooked up at least 8 brown trout and landed two nice brown around 5-6 pounds. Turn back east and off went the lights an nothing. Didn't have enough time to check the deep water on a five hour trip but what a couple few hours it was. Turns out that the last 3 times they tried a charter trip on the lake it was too rough. Glad the weather finally worked out for them.
July 11, 2010Got back to the dock for minute and off I go again in the beautiful weather. Knowing that the brown trout shut down, I just headed north and set up in 200' and just kept going north. Got all the way to 400' and nothing. Started back in and off goes the port wire rod. A really nice 10 pound rainbow in the net. Set the rod back up and take two steps........... and out it goes again. This time its smokin out!!! After a good fight, a nice Lake Ontario King goes in the net. After losing the one on Saturday he got an extra wack with the bat. LOL Got another small king a little later on. Still had some of those hit and runs that I had in the morning but not a bad afternoon trip. I don't do alot of afternoon trips because its pot luck. It can be good, or its a boat ride. This time is it was good. July 10, 2010Not sure why but mother nature has make it tough on the days I have fishing charters. This is the third trip in a row its been rough or beyond rough! Got some guys from the home town and was hoping to show them a good trip. NW winds at 15 mph + and waves 4 foot all day. Its not that the boat is unsafe and cant handle the water, its just 10 times more difficult to run the boat and alot of the time is wasted turning and tacking in unproductive directionsdue to the waves. Did the best with what mother nature gave me and out we went. Landed two nice rainbows and a small king. Had the shallow rigger smoke out and knew it was a big fish. The king tangled in one other down rigger and broke the line on that rigger rod. then he got in the starboard wire rod. Got that mess straiten out and almost within the range of the net. Then mike and I watched him swim around the port wire rod. ?#$@! I reached as far as I could with the net but it was not enough and snap goes the line and off goes the 20+ pound king we fought for ten minutes. At least they all got to see the king salmon and see just how hard it is to control and land one. When Mr. Salmon wants to go left and tangle in the rods he goes left and you will not stop him. Honestly thinking about it, I cant believe we net as mainly fish as we do. If I took a bite out a hamburger and then had a big hook stick me thru the face and someone or something was dragging me toward the "Mother Ship". I do what ever I could do to get away too. Hope they all got the salmon itch, and want to try it again. Even though the weather was rough we did do really good. July 5, 2010Went out with some old friends for a 4 hour trip. HOT weather with No breeze. We all were sweating by 7AM. Did real well, 7 for 10 but had a few quick hits that I never count. If there gone before you can get to the rod they dont count. One nice big Coho and lost a BIG rainbow that smoked the corner down rigger out so hard that I thought was king, till he launched out of the water several times. One time to many :( June 29 & 30, 2010Well it was a cool, sunny clear as a bell day on the lake. One Problem.....8 foot waves! We bounced out to 200' of water and turned east and a way we went. We ended up 1 for 2 and had to call it a day around 10 am..... or should I say 2 days. The lake never settled down till Friday:( The guys did real well and we were the last boat off the lake in Sodus bay. So they win the Iron Man award for that victory. I struggled to kept the boat under 4 mph, so to even hookup and land a fish was really good. I believe they are rebooking in August so mother nature owes them a few goods days on the water. June 26, 2010Well the fishing is starting to turn around. We had 14 or 15 hits and landed 10. Still getting some of the small but legal kings but those kind of numbers who complaining. I did put back 2 or 3 that were legal size but they where already going home with a bunch of fillets, so ill catch them in years from now. We had 2 bows around 9ish and our biggest king was 14 pounds. The one brown we got was in 200' of water 70' down, got no clue what he was doing out there but ill take it. It was busy all day and the guys had a blast even if "That Guy" didn't stay awake for the whole trip. Thank goodness!!!
May 2010Well it was a rough trip with waves close to 6' by noon but we landed some nice fish. The first fish of the day was a 16 pound King Salmon, our first King of the season, we netted Lake Trout that was 11+ pounds, a 6 pound Rainbow, an Atlantic Salmon, plus one dumb seagull. Over all we were 4 for 6 not counting the Bird. The guys have a good mix of fish fillets to take home and eat. They were not interested in trying the seagull over the grill how ever.

2010 fishing season is under way. With no colored water I knew it was going to be difficult get brown trout to bite. Made a few passes on some good spots and did get 2 brown trout to bite. Been hearing about some big Atlantic salmon being caught I turned the boat north and out we went. A small rip on the lead core..... then another....... then the inline board took off! A good 20 minute fight and in the boat came this 12 pound 10 oz salmon. Then got a small rainbow as well. Ended up 4 for 5. Reel good Start to the No Promises charter season.
