Fishing Reports 2009

August 21-23, 2009

A three day charter with a group of five guys from Maine. After a few hours of slow fishing and then throwing a damn banana over board we got on some fish. Ended up real well with I believe five fish including nice 20 pounder salmon and a derby rainbow but you have to in it to win it!  With the same weather conditions for the next day, and No Bananas' on board, I'm just going to run a little more stuff that the salmon were hitting on and No Problem Right!?! Wrong!!! The worst day of the season. We went 0-2 and the two hits were small one on the 400 copper. A few beers that night and a bunch of bananas on the boat for Sunday we were off and running. Dumped a smallish size bow in the morning then nothing for a few hours. Guys were looking forward to the ten hour drive home it was so bad then off the corner rigger went with a real big king! Course he run right into the port deep wire rod and gone! WTF! Really starting to felling like crap the 600 copper goes off and my second big coho salmon in as many weeks. Just put the rod away and a double on 9 pound rainbows. One good day, one junk day and a flurry in the end. Not to bad. They are taking home some great lake Ontario table fair for sure.

I think i'm going to call Myth Busters. Its and old myth that you are going to have a bad day of fishing if you have a banana on the boat, heard that for years. Well the only day we didn't have bananas on board is the day we didn't have fish either. Lets see if i make it on next season.

A re booking trip do to bad weather earlier in the year. The weather was great and so was the fishing. The boys had a blast hooking up and landing some really feisty Salmon. The first one of the day we couldn't even stop him! But that fish is waiting to battle me again some other day. After seeing the boys have a blast the guys could not help but jump up and grab a rod and fight a few fish of there own. A ton of fun was had by all.

My close friends from NC stoped in a few days to visit. I talked them into spending the night in Sodus and a late morning trip of salmon fishing before they are off. Late morning was 7:30 am! I most have prayed to the fish gods at least 10 times for great weather and two salmon on this trip. First I wanted perfect weather so Carson could go out on the boat, one fish that Caleb could reel in by himself, and one real nice size King for Jamie to fight. I did not have to ask the fish gods anything for Eddy, because if the ANY of the three came true that's all he would want. We went three for three!!! This has to be the best fishing picture I have ever taken!!! If anyone thinks that a fishing charter is something that a family can't do or will not enjoy then just look at this picture. Even the fish are smiling.

Saturday morning the first fish was a nice 17 pounder and was thinking it was going to be busy all day. It would have been great but we lost all three fish on the "Cursed" down rigger rod. One miss and two break off’s. We still was 4 for 7. Three bow's and the salmon. Came in second again in the challenge :-( The stingray boat had three 20+ pounder that they got real shallow. Hope the salmon are not ready for that yet!

August 7, 2009

I was part of a Four boat charter group from Philly. Lets say they did not like my NY Giants Championship tee shirt. First day it was real rough out so we didn't go out till Noon. when 5 for 7 with 3 majors and the cutest little brown trout you ever saw. Our best was 19 pounds which did not win my guys the boat to boat challenge.

The fishing went form hot to cold. Not sure why but it sure did. Its been 10+ fish a day for over three weeks. They just got the case of lock jaw. The most exiting thing all morning was getting a next picture of sleeping beauty. We did end up 5 for 5 with 4 salmon and a 4 pound rainbow. Would have killed for that kind of a day that year.

It was a great day to be out on the water in Sodus Bay. Weather was great, and the fishing was just as good. We went 10 for 13 with 4 big salmon. We were lucky and got some smaller fish for the little one on board. Had a full boat with 5 adults and 2 kids. Everyone got fish except for the boy, he sleep all day.

It was a great day on the water. We went 10 for 12 with One bow and the rest all big kings from 15 to 20+ pounds. 45 minute fight on the 600' copper with one hooked in the back. Last one of the day smoked out the wire to past 700'. We got them both. Fishing been hot and looks to stay that way for awhile.

June 2009

Finally remembered to take camera and got some pictures. June 27 and 28 went fishing with Bob and Jack From Mass. Had a great time on and off the water. Put Jack on the board with his 22.3 pound salmon a just missed with bobs at 19.4. Saturdays had 11 bites and loaded 7 fish. Got the slam with 2 lakers 1 brown 2 bows and 2 salmon. Got to love June fishing when they are all there.
Sunday went 5 for 8 with Jack's King and a 7 pound Rainbow that put on a show in the air for a good 5 minutes.

Early April Brown fishing in Sodus was great. A bunch of quality brown trout is just what you need to get rid of the winter blues. John and the boy's were a blast on the water. Our biggest Brown had a monster hook jaw on him. The picture does not do him justice.
