FISHING: Brown Trout
Thanks for taking a look at No Promises fishing charters. We charter out of Historic Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario. Our boat is parked right down town behind Abe’s Waterfront on Sodus Point. We start fishing in early April for monster Brown Trout. A great fighting fish on light line. Brown trout utilize their whole body by turning sideways and fighting hard. On a great day 20+ Brown trout can be landed. Theses fish are not just 2-3 pounds either. The waters around Sodus Bay are known for the best Brown Trout fishing on the entire Lake. Over half of the 2007 spring LOC. Derby brown trout were caught fishing distance from Sodus Point. Rainbow/Steelhead Trout
Sometime mid spring the aerial acrobats makes their appearance with a splash. On a trip last season we got into a school of the jumpers. They would smash a bait then swim straight up and out of the water and would clear the back of the boat by several feet before the rod even wiggled. When a 10lb+ rainbow does more jumps flips and twists than Mary Lou Retton ever did, it is hard to stop staring at the fish, and remember that you still have to reel him in. Salmon
When summer rolls in so do the Salmon. They do not use there bodies like a brown trout, they do not launch out of the water like rainbow’s. Salmon just go on long drag screaming kamikaze runs and battle you up to 30+ minutes. They are also BIG. Coho Salmon, AKA The Tasty Treat, can be 8-15 pounds. King Salmon average 15-20 lbs. but a big king salmon can go 25-30+lbs. During the late summer and fall we love to target these much larger fish. Fishing Through out the Season
I have never met a fish that can read a calendar and know when to show up on a set date. If you want a certain species of fish call us and we try to schedule your charter during the prime time for that species. The best day’s out of Sodus Point are the one’s where multiple species can be caught. To experience a bull dogging Brown, a jumping Rainbow, and an out of control King all in one day will make you want to fish Lake Ontario every chance you get.
